Justin Kurzel

Justin Kurzel is a visionary talent known for his ability to craft powerful, emotionally resonant stories across both the advertising and film industries. His 2018 viral PSA “Stop the Horror” for Go Gentle Australia was a pivotal campaign, capturing the last days of a terminally ill man in a successful campaign to change the country’s laws on voluntary assisted death. The film earned a Grand Prix at Ciclope and Cannes Lion Gold for Film Craft/Direction. He has also directed campaigns for brands such as NRMA, VW, TAC and R.M. Williams. Justin’s debut feature, Snowtown (2011), premiered at the Adelaide Film Festival and won the Audience Award, setting the stage for a career marked by critical acclaim. Justin was awarded Best Director at the AACTA Awards and the film screened at numerous festivals including Toronto in 2011 and International Critics Week in Cannes in 2012, where it was awarded Special Distinction of the President. Justin’s feature films showcase his versatility and skill in bringing a range of narratives to life. His body of work also includes Macbeth (2015), starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, which premiered in competition at the Cannes Film Festival; Assassin’s Creed (2016), an adaptation of the popular video game franchise produced by New Regency and starring Michael Fassbender and Jeremy Irons; and The True History of the Kelly Gang (2019), based on the novel by Peter Carey, which premiered in the Gala section at the Toronto International Film Festival. Justin’s Nitram (2021), a psychological drama exploring the events leading up to the Port Arthur massacre, premiered at Cannes, with Caleb Landry Jones winning Best Actor. The film dominated the AACTA Awards, winning eight major categories, including Best Film and Best Director. His feature The Order (2024), starring Jude Law and Nicholas Hoult, premiered in competition at the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals. He is currently in production on his next feature, Burning Rainbow Farm, starring Sebastian Stan and Leo Woodall and based on the true story of two gay cannabis activists in 1990s Michigan.  In television, Justin recently directed and executive produced the series The Narrow Road to the Deep North, starring Jacob Elordi and Odessa Young, now streaming on Amazon Prime. He also directed two episodes of the series Black Rabbit with Jude Law and Jason Bateman for Netflix. With an ever-evolving career that spans feature films, television, and commercials, Justin Kurzel continues to make an indelible mark on the industry. He is represented for commercials by Biscuit Filmworks in the U.S. and U.K., and Revolver in Australia and New Zealand.
